Initial Steps
Confirm the Serial Number on the RUMmeter matches what is on the Portal.
The RUMmeter serial number can be found on the front of the unit, this is an 8-digit number that identifies the RUMmeter. The Serial number is circled in RED in the below photo.
Once this Serial Number has been found, ensure the serial number on the portal matches. This serial number can be found by following the below steps:
- Go to the location where the space/slip is located
- Click on the row of the space/slip in question
- The Serial Number will be found at the lower left of the metering popup.
If the RUMmeter is not Communicating
- Ensure the RUMmeter is Powered
The RUMmeter has a screen on the front of the unit, when the unit is powered, this display will be lit and cycling through the current Voltage, Amperage, and the Kilowatt-hours used. If the screen is not on then ensure there is 120V (Form 1s) or 240V (Form 2s,12s) applied to the TOP 2 jaws where the Meter is inserted, please consult a licensed electrician if you are not comfortable working with live AC for this task. - Inspect the screen for any error messages
The RUMmeter has several error messages that may be shown on the display, many of these will prevent the RUMmeter from communicating or functioning properly. For a list of errors and troubleshooting actions see below.
Error Condition | Error Code | Failure Description | Action |
ERR_UNPROGRAMMED | 001 | Meter is not programmed, or it is in factory default state | OEM Mistake – Return Meter to MarineSync |
ERR_CONFIG | 002 | Configuration not correct or meter not configured | OEM Mistake – Return Meter to MarineSync |
ERR_SELFCHK | 003 | Meter tried to recover reading data from backup memory after power was up and did not find any good records | Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues, replace meter. |
ERR_RAMFAILURE | 004 | RAM memory failed | Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues, replace meter. |
ERR_ROMFAILURE | 005 | ROM memory failed | Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues, replace meter. |
ERR_NONVOLMEMFAILURE | 006 | Meter tried to save reading data in the EEPROM memory unsuccessfully | If error code persists longer than 5 minutes, contact Marinesync |
ERR_CLOCK | 007 | Meter could not determine internal clock state | Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues, replace meter. |
ERR_MEASUREMENT | 008 | Meter could not determine a measurement element or condition | Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues, replace meter. |
ERR_LOWBATTERY | 009 | Battery no longer holds a charge | Replace battery. |
ERR_LOWLOSSPOTIENTIAL | 010 | Meter detected a device potential below a predetermined value | Verify meter connection to the network. |
ERR_DEMANDOVERLOAD | 011 | Demand threshold overload was detected | Utility user was consuming more energy than the preset limit. If error persists, temporarily replace meter to verify energy consumption. If consumption is within limits. Verify meter configuration. |
ERR_POWERFAILURE | 012 | Meter Detected a power failure or the power consumption register is corrupt | Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues replace meter and contact MarineSync. |
ERR_REVERSEROTATION | 013 | A reverse rotation condition was detected | Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues correct socket wiring or replace meter. |
ERR_RADIO | 101 | Radio is not configured or is not present in the meter | Verify if meter has radio. If so, verify radio configuration. Power Cycle the meter. If failure continues, replace meter and contact MarineSync. |
ERR_POWERSWITCH | 102 | Utility disconnect switch has malfunctioned | Replace switch board and/or power switch, or Replace Meter. |
ERR_NOTCALIBRATED | 103 | Meter is uncalibrated | Calibrate meter |
EMERGENCY_DISCONNECTED | 104 | Remote disconnect switch was opened. Measured current exceeded | Reduce current load. |
ERR_TILT_SENSOR | 105 | An attempt to displace meter from the Socket. Meter must be equipped with a tilt sensor. | No negative effects on meter capabilities. |
- Power Cycle the RUMmeter
Remove power from the RUMmeter, this can be done by removing power to the jaws where the RUMmeter is installed. Once power is removed from the RUMmeter allow the RUMmeter to stay off for approximately 15 minutes. This should give the RUMmeter adequate time to discharge its capacitors and allow its network status to reset. Once 15 minutes have elapsed, power on the RUMmeter. It may take up to ten minutes for the RUMmeter to join the network, and this process may need to be repeated up to twice.
If the RUMmeter is still not communicating after following the above steps, please contact Marinesync for further troubleshooting.
If the RUMmeter is not recording usage
- Inspect the Pedestal wiring
The RUMmeter should be receiving power from the top 2 jaws. The bus line should be attached to the top 2 jaws, for a form 1s meter this is a 120V connection involving an L1 and a neutral, for a form 2s or 12s meter this is a 240V connection involving an L1 and an L2. The Load line connection should be made at the bottom 2 jaws connected to the outlets used.
There should be no connection between the top and bottom jaws other than the RUMmeter. There should be no other Line wires connected to the outlet that are not fed by the bottom jaws of the RUMmeter. - Run a Load on the Meter to Test the Install
Using a Load Generator such as a Resistive Bank, or a Heat Gun; draw a relatively known load (i.e. 1 KW) and ensure the Marinesync portal shows 1 KW of usage. The usage will also be shown on the RUMmeter as it cycles through the details on its screen. The current Amperage used will be shown as well as the total Kilowatt-hours used, ensure the amperage value lines up with the expected value and the kilowatt-hours increment when expected. Check the Marinesync portal and update the RUMmeter’s reading to ensure that it is seeing the pulses.
If the portal is still not recording usage properly after following these steps, contact Marinesync for further troubleshooting.
