Initial Steps
- Locate the where the Base Station is installed
Marinesync is typically unable to help with this task as the Base Station is usually installed by the location or the Electrician contracted by the location.
Ensure the Base Station and Gateway is powered
- Check the AC power to the device
The Base Station requires 120VAC power to function properly. If there is proper AC power to the Power Supply the small blue indicator LED on the unit will be illuminated. If this is not the case, there may be a loose wire or faulty power to the Base Station. The Power Supply may also be faulty, a multimeter (set to AC voltage mode) is useful to confirm this. - Check the Base Station’s DC power
If the Power Supply is providing DC power to the Gateway. When the Gateway is powered on there are several Green LED’s that will light up.
If the Gateway’s LEDs are not lighting up while the Power Supply’s blue LED is illuminated there may be a loose wire between the Power Supply and Gateway, or the Gateway may be faulty.
In the case it is determined that any component is faulty contact Marinesync for a replacement.
Ensure the Base Station has an Ethernet connection1
- Check all Ethernet cables are securely inserted
There is an ethernet patch cable between the Ethernet pass-thru bulkhead on the bottom of the unit and the Gateway, make sure this cable is securely inserted at both the bulkhead and the Gateway.
On the outside of the gateway there should be an Ethernet cable connecting from the pass-thru bulkhead to the local network switch. This cable connects the Base Station to the local network. - Check that the Gateway is provided an internet connection
The Gateway requires an IP address to be assigned by a local DHCP server or for the local router to have a static IP address assigned to its MAC address. Ensure the network is set up to accommodate this requirement as well as allowing the Gateway to communicate with the external internet. This process may require the help of IT personnel.
1 – not all Marinesync Base Stations are installed with an Ethernet connection, some rely on the built in cellular connection
Ensure the Base Stations antenna is installed securely
- Check the internal antenna connection
The Base Station has an antenna cable that connects from the gateway to the pass-thru co-axial bulkhead, this connection should be tight and secure on both ends. - Check the external antenna connection
The Base Station has an outdoor external antenna cable that connects the Base Station to the large white antenna, this connection should be tight and secure on both ends.
If the previous steps have been completed and the Base Station is still not communicating with installed RUM units, please contact Marinesync for further troubleshooting.
